Amid expanding Government regulation and changes
in the Nation's railroad industry, the membership struggled for the future
direction of the Scenic Railway. It was during these years
that diesel replaced steam as the primary motive power. Formal training
classes, written procedures and even radios were adopted in everyday operations.

Canal Winchester Charter Trips
With the GP-7 diesel regularly performing
the scheduled passenger trips, steam engine #33 occasionally performed
special charter trips from Canal Winchester Ohio, South to Nelsonville
and back.
