.   no photo yet           #710 GP10

This diesel locomotive arrived on the HV  in September 2003.  It was originally a GP9 and was rebuilt in Paducah Ky. for the Illinois Central.  This is the diesel that the HV received in a trade for steam engine#33.

. #7318 ex-US Army GE 44 ton Diesel
.                     This small engine was the second locomotive for the HVSRy arriving in  Dec.1981
.
.                    here is a photo of the 7318 being used as the Shop Goat ( maintenance shop assignment ) Feb. 2001

. #5833  ex-C&O GP-7  painted as originally delivered
.                       This diesel was the third loco to arrive and has been the workhorse of  recent year's operations.  Built in the 1950's by General Motor's EMD Division the GP-7 was a major player in the dieselization ( from steam ) of American railroads.  ( rear view )

. switcher #4005
Originally built for the United States Army in 1954 by the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton..

.  #8465 (ex-#711) - 1944 Whitcomb 65 Ton
.                        As the final years of World War Two were winding down, the Allies needed to restore railway operations in Europe.  Locomotives like the #711 were constructed with profiles to permit them to operate in the tight spaces of temporary bridges and damaged tunnels.   The #711 actually has two separate motors for dependable operations.  It served it's past few years in service at Cargill grain company in Bloomfield (Southwest of Washington Courthouse Ohio).

. #2 ex-Ohio Power Company  0-4-0  Fireless Cooker
.                     Extremely rare today are these special Steam Engines that didn't have a firebox.  Often used to switch cars at chemical plants and other industries where a firebox's flames might cause an explosion, these thermos bottles  saw service into the 1960's.  Not having a traditional firebox these engines relied on an external supply of steam which made limited operations possible before another charge of steam was necessary.   HVSRY #2  is currently awaiting cosmetic restoration.

. #3 ex-Ohio Power Company 0-6-0 switcher
.                         This Loco was a common type of  Switcher steam engine used through-out  yesterday's  railroads and industries.  Because of its small size it was especially suited for the tight curves of  industrial track.

.                         Photo of #3 being evaluated for restoration inside the Engine House.
.
.                         Here are 3 photos of  #3's  little tender setting outside the Shop.  Notice the old archbar type trucks !
