For decades Baker Center has served as OU's  Student Center, housing the Student Senate, student newspaper and other related offices. 

On January 2007 a new Baker Student Center will open a block South of  the former Center, bearing the same name.  The new Center is located on the far South end of Court street.  Its foundation three stories below along Oxbow Drive (near Byrd Arena).

.....April 26,2005  the steel skeleton is complete and a roof  is installed

Standing is Scripps Hall's parking lot, looking Southwest.

The steel frame indicates the basic outline of the future building.

The rotunda is a prominent feature of the Court Street elevation.

A stairway winds up from the rotunda.

The East end and the West end of this elevation.

Workers weld corrugated steel panels to the roof beams.

The utilities enter through a tunnel.

.....Jan.26,2005  steel rises and concrete is poured

A high crane prepares to unload another shipment of steel for a semi, near the construction trailers.

Concrete is pumped by a special truck onto the third floor where workers smooth it.
