University Estates
Sept.20, 2002
With increasing enrollment placing demands on
OU's housing, classroom space and faculty, the University seeks creative
ways to accommodate the many students. One solution to help ease
the faculty shortage is to offer retired college facility the opportunity
to return to teaching. OU hopes that a country club retirement
community, complete with golf course, will encourage them to consider moving
to Athens.
This new community is being built along Armitge
road, across the river from Athens's West side.

The location is adjacent to the old
Hope family farm.
A small hill is leveled to
provide fill for the nearby hollow
and for OU's new Lecture Hall
more once construction resumes
